This tour is designed for people who want to explore the mountains of Colombia, its different ecosystems and experience the local culture of indigenous groups and farmers at these locations. Also during the tour you can see magnificent unspoiled landscapes and might have the chance to see some unique wildlife.
This itinerary is special and avoiding the most crowded mountains of Colombia. Instead, we have chosen some of the most special and untravelled mountain destinations nationwide, where you will get to visit off-the-beaten track destinations that are not in the books of regular adventure travels in our country.

WELCOMING IN SANTANDER
On this day, you will be received by the local team at the Bucaramanga airport. Then you will have a private transfer to the town of San Vicente de Chucuri, located 2-hrs. away from there. You will have a briefing and a talk by the local guides in order to have all the instructions for the trek. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to prepare yourselves for the next days of adventure and to enjoy the quietness and authenticity of this charming town.
S.V. CHUCURI – ZAPATOCA
On this day, you will start the first day of trek, that can have a length from 17 to 30 kms by ancient trails depending on the physical level of the hikers. Starting at 1.230 m.a.s.l. passing by the rainforest ecosystems of Yariguies National Park and heading to the town of Zapatoca located 1.700 m.a.s.l. Some initial and final parts of the trail can be done by car in order to make the trek easier, but 16 kms are unavoidable. There will always be an emergency car with the group.
ZAPATOCA – GUANE - BARICHARA
On this day, you can have a trek from 10 to 28.5 kms length, starting at Zapatoca town, where you will have a first nice view of Chicamocha canyon. You will walk by the “Lengerke” trails first descending 17 kms (12 kms can be done by car) to the Suarez River and then ascending 6.5 kms to the small town in Guane, where you will have a traditional lunch. You can either continue a 5 kms hike towards the town of Barichara or you can do this part by car.
BARICHARA - JORDAN
On this day, we can start the journey hiking or taking a car to Villanueva town, where you have a 10 kms hike down the canyon, in order to take advantage of the cool weather of the morning. We will descend more than 1.000 meters in order to reach the hotel in the town of Jordan, located next to the Chicamocha river where we will have lunch. In the afternoon you can cool down in the natural pools of the place and will have dinner at night.
JORDAN – LOS SANTOS – LA MOJARRA
On this day, we will start our ascent of 5 kms and 850 mts of elevation gain towards the town of Los Santos. We will visit its enchanted streets together before having lunch in the town. In the afternoon we will have the last 10 kms of hike to La Mojarra natural climbing wall, which is a famous destination for rock climbers. After that, you will cross the cable car of the Chicamocha canyon and will be taken by car to Barichara where you will spend the night
BARICHARA
On this day, after breakfast, you will have a free morning to enjoy by the cobblestone streets of Barichara, its museums and discover the colonial Spanish-heritage architecture of this beautiful town. In the afternoon, you will have a 4-hrs. transfer to the colonial town of Villa de Leyva, where we will drop you off at your hotel, which is one of the best in the entire area and can enjoy the night in this charming walkable town.
VILLA DE LEYVA
On this day, we will start a 9.5 kms hike to Sachica, recognized as one of the most beautiful towns of the region. You will ascend to the San Marcos viewpoint and the mountain of Iguaque, where the panorama opens to a beautiful landscape with the desert in the background mixed with the green of the mountains on the other side. Later on, you will have a 3.5-hrs. transfer to Bogota, where you will be dropped at your hotel.
SAN AGUSTIN ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK
After breakfast, you will be taken to be at the airport 2-hrs. before your flight, and will fly directly to Pitalito. Once there, you will be picked up and will have a 30-mins. transfer to your hotel in San Agustin. You will have lunch, and after that, you will have a tour at the Archeological Park with our bilingual guide, discovering the first statues of the region in this place that has the best collection of archeology nationwide. Later on, you will be taken back to the hotel.
TOURIST RING OF SAN AGUSTIN
On this day, you will have a full day tour starting at 8:00 AM, visiting by car the main attractions of the surrounding area of San Agustin, which are the Bordones waterfall, the Magdalena strait, the Obando museum, the statues of Isnos and Alto de Los Idolos. At each place you will have different stops where you will have the explanation of the history and mysticism of the area. At the end of the afternoon, you will be taken back to your hotel.
LA PELOTA, PURUTAL & LA CHAQUIRA SITES
ay, you will start at 9:00 AM visiting some of the most beautiful statues of the whole region, located at La Pelota and Purutal sites. These statues still keep the original colors that the civilization that build them used almost 2.000 years ago. In the afternoon you will visit the archeological site of La Chaquira which is accessible by hike of by horse-back riding. At the end of the day, you will have instructions for the next trekking journey.
QHAPAG ÑAN INCA TRAIL
On this day, you will be taken by car in a 2-hrs. ride towards Quinchana village. Once there we will start the trek towards La Magdalena Lagoon by the ancient indigenous Inca trails of Qhapag Ñan of this territory, which was the northern limit of the Inca empire. We will hike 16 kms in total starting at 1.700 m.a.s.l. and will sleep in San Antonio refuge located 2300 m.a.s.l. passing by wet Paramo ecosystems full of green and very little visited.
MAGDALENA SACRED LAGOONS
On this day, we will start very early an 18 kms hike and will visit the Magdalena lagoon, among other several sacred lagoons for the local indigenous groups, where we can practice some of their living rituals and give some offerings to those water bodies, which is called the Colombian Massif Fluvial Star, as it is the place where the main and longest rivers of Colombia are born, such as Magdalena, Cauca, Caqueta, among others.
YANACONA INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
On this day, you will be taken by car from Valencia to the town of Rioblanco in a 4-hrs. ride, passing by marvelous landscapes of the Colombian Massif. Upon arrival you will share a traditional food with the indigenous people there and can experience different traditions and rituals with them. Late in the afternoon you will be taken to the city of Popayan where you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
POPAYAN
On this day, you will have at 9:00 AM a city-tour with our bilingual guide, exploring the beautiful historical center of Popayan, which is called the white city as its buildings preserve this color. In the afternoon, you will be taken to "Hacienda Calibio", which was in important place for the independence of the country or/and can have a silkworm’s experience where you will see how locals make this ancient natural fabric, before being taken back to the hotel.
TRANSFER TO BELALCAZAR
On this day, at 8:00 AM you will be taken to Belalcazar, which is a village located 4-hrs. away from Popayan by some unpaved but beautiful roads. Belalcazar is a quiet town located in indigenous territories, where you will be isolated from big cities and will feel the indigenous culture. You will check-in at the hotel and will have lunch. In the afternoon you will have a preparation talk for the expedition.
HUILA SUMMIT ATTEMPT DAY 1
On this day, at 03:30 AM, you will depart by car from Belalcázar to the indigenous community of Caloto Wila. It is at 2.100 m.a.s.l. and here you will be welcomed by the Nasa ethnic group, will have breakfast and will get to a point called “Dublin ''. Once in the place and some instructions regarding the route you will start the hike to the campsite one. On this day of the ascent, you will rest in a camp located at 3.600 m.a.s.l.
HUILA SUMMIT ATTEMPT DAY 2
On this day, you will start by having a light breakfast at 06:00 AM. You will gain altitude quickly, trekking by a rough and demanding terrain that can be very mudy. At noon we aim to reach the monitoring zone towers, where you will take a break and lunch. This day’s goal is Mars Base Camp at 4600 m.a.s.l. Later you will do an ice climbing gear practice, where we will address practical lessons for the summit attempt of the next day.
HUILA SUMMIT ATTEMPT DAY 3
On this day, you will start with a light breakfast. Early in the morning we set off to the edge of the snow at 4.800 m.a.s.l. where you will wear the ice climbing equipment and will walk on the glacier with the objective to reach the highest point of the South Peak of Nevado del Huila located at 5.200 m.a.s.l. As you descend the glacier you will arrive at the base camp, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch and will continue descending till campsite 1.
HUILA SUMMIT ATTEMPT DAY 4
On this day, this day you will begin with the descent from the campsite 1, to the point called Dublin, where the vehicle will pick you up and will take you to the indigenous community of Caloto Wila to enjoy a delicious meal. At the end of the day, you will get by 4x4 car to the town of Belalcazar, which was the starting point of this experience and will rest in a hotel of the town.
TRANSFER TO NEIVA
On this day, after breakfast you will be taken to the city of Neiva, passing by the mountains and great views of the area. Once at that warm city you will check-in at your comfortable hotel and will have the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel such as its pool and rest after this long journey.
FLIGHT OUT
On this day, you will have breakfast at the hotel, and you will be taken to the airport of Neiva in order to be 2 hours before flight connections.

TIPPING
- Tipping is not mandatory, but if you consider you can tip the guides with an amount from 50.000 to 100.000 COP (12 to 25 USD approx.) per day of service.

SEASONS
- It is very much advisable to visit this destination in the dry season, as during the rainy season the challenge is bigger due to the extremely muddy and difficult conditions of the trails.
- The dry season in Colombia ranges from Mid-November till March, in this period of the year you can expect to have easier hikes and less rain in general.
- Getting by car to off the road paths will be easier, making the transportation times shorter to those spots in very rural areas.
- The rainy season starts in April and ends in mid-November, being May and October the rainiest months in Colombia and from June to September a softer rainy period.
- If you decide to attend this trip in the wet season you need to take into account that the conditions will be very tough in general and the probability to get to the summit or see it without clouds will be much lower.
